This movie is near and dear to my heart because I played Annelle in the play, and the other girls that were in it with me became my best friends. <3 We truly became Steel Magnolias after that experience.
@xpunkerdoodle Wow, you’re the dumbest person ever. The reason it sounds like they are saying “Ouisa” is because they have southern accents. You obviously know nothing about Steel Magnolias. Look it up anywhere, her name is Ouiser.
EVERY SINGLE TIME I see this scene, I cry like a baby (bawl!) then when the scene turns, I laugh hysterically! Whoever wrote this scene-WOW-you are talented beyond measure. But for Sally Field to CARRY the emotion of the scene…She instantly became my favorite actress! What in the world was going through her mind as she carried this scene through? Something very close to her soul must have related to what she had to portray. They’ll have to come up with something a lot better than an Oscar
This has to be my favorite scene in this movie. All the actresses were great, but Shirley & Sally were phenomenal! The way Sally takes us on an emotional rollercoaster of grief and pain, and then just when your heart is ready to break, Olympia’s character breaks the spell when she attempts to offer Ouisa as an outlet for M’lynn’s frustration. Laughter through tears, very difficult to accomplish…..Well done, ladies!

This movie never disappoints no matter how many times I see it. Georges Delerue composed one of the most achingly beautiful scores I have ever heard. I hear echos of Gone With The Wind all throughout it. The violin and cello solo at the begining of this clip just rips my heart out. As a collector of films scores, this is one of the “holy grail” items in my collection. When I actually found a copy of this rare and out of print score, I unflinchingly paid the $175.00 price tag. Insane? maybe
we did this scene in my theater class except we did the play version… its a little different…. i was annelle the pregnant one lol

I have treasured and quoted this since forever. I didn’t understand it at the time. Now, I am an insulin-dependent diabetic complete with freak-outs. My poor loved ones! Thanks for reminding us we aren’t alone.

Ouiser: “Yes Annelle, I pray! there, I said it.” Annelle: “Well I had suspected this all along.” Ouiser “Oh, well, don’t you expect me to come to one o’ your churches, bible beaters doin God only knows what, they’d prolly make you eat a live chicken!” Annelle: “Not on your first visit.” Clairee: “very good Annelle, spoken like a true smartass.”

I watched this movie the other day and this scene tore me up.
i don’t care how many times i see this i always cry hysterically because the part the always hits me close to home is when m’lynn says that’s what my mind says but i wish someone would explain it to me heart
Thanks so much for uploading this scene, it’s one of my favorites in this movie. It’s impacting and everyone can relate to a moment like this. That yes it’s sad when our love ones are gone, but life keeps on going and we have to live with it and in it.
