Question about liquids and aerosols in checked luggage?
I haven’t traveled via air since the new liquid restrictions (3oz or less) for carry ons went into effect. I am planning to put all my toiletries (shampoo etc) into my checked luggage. Does anyone know if there are any restrictions on putting aerosol hairspray into my checked luggage? Also, any tips on putting liquids into my bag without it oozing all over the place? I am going to put it all in ziploc bags, but it would be great if there was a way to keep it in the bottles.
Let me add some detail, since I guess I didn’t make it clear enough. I am going to put ALL my toiletries(shampoo, bodywash, makeup, etc) into my checked luggage, not my carryon. Are there restrictions on the amount of each bottle even in my checked luggage? And an aerolsol spray is also ok?

First of all, all liquids that you bring on board must be able to fit in a 1-quart sized bag. So that may limit how many liquid bottles you actually bring on board.
As far as aerosol cans in your checked luggage, there are no restrictions on that. In fact, you can bring aerosol cans on board (as long as they’re less than 3oz and fit in your 1-quart sized bag). I’ve brought aerosol cans on board frequently, even in the past couple of weeks, and they never said anything about it.
As far as keeping your items from oozing all over, there’s no real trick to that other than making sure the caps are sealed tight and putting all liquids in ziplock bags (even if they’re in your checked luggage).
Also, for your carry on liquids, make sure you have them in an easily accessible part of your bag–they will make you take the bag of liquids out of your bag when you’re going through security.
Liquids, gels and aerosols are not limited in checked luggage. Make sure you get bottles that stay closed - screw on tops are less likely to leak than pop tops. Aerosols are fine - you can tape the lid down to make sure it does not get loose. I don’t usually travel with aerosols.
You don’t have to zip lock them though you can. Just make sure they are completely closed, and in bottles that have solid closures and you should be fine.
No, there’s no limit on any of that stuff in your checked luggage.
Here’s a good tip on how to prevent it to some degree from oozing all over the place.
First, put them all inside a large Ziploc bag or multiple bags if you have to. Second, place that bag inside rolled up clothes to insulate it.
More than likely, your bag will be under a few others in the cargo hold, so there could be a signifigant amount of weight on top of the bag. Also, never put anything in those outside pockets on your bag. Stuff in there doesnt’ stand a chance from getting crushed.
Finally, check the temperature ratings on your aerosols. Many of them will explode at certain high and low temps. At crusing altitude, the outside air temp is as low as -55 F. That’s cold! That’s more than enough to blow up anything inside a hairspray can.
Depending on the type of the plane or what cargo hold it’s in, the temp can definitely get below freezing. So by insulating your stuff in your clothes, you’re adding that extra bit to keep it from busting .
